FOCUSED is a series produced by Shutterstock in partnership with Red Bull Media House. It explores how athletes use video for creativity, promotion, and progression in their sports.
Video is having its moment in the sports arena: cameras fly through the air to capture aerial angles, nail-biting finishes get super slow-motion replays, and VR brings new meaning to the term “spectator sport.” But not every sport has enjoyed undivided video attention.
Red Bull athlete Eric Lagerstrom competes in triathlons all over the world, and he knows the sport has never gotten its due credit in the video medium. Sure, it gets airtime every four years during the Summer Olympics, but this sporadic coverage doesn’t let viewers in on the intimacies of the sport: the grueling training schedule, the modalities of movement, the gorgeous landscapes traversed. After waiting for someone to start filming, Eric finally decided to take it on himself.
Eric treats his YouTube series, Viking Life, like a video journal. He documents the daily life of triathletes through innovative shooting and editing techniques, including GoPro shots and more recently drone footage.
In this episode of FOCUSED, Eric gives us an inside look at his journey to becoming a professional triathlete and how he uses video to give back to the sport that has shaped his life.

The first episode of FOCUSED featured Red Bull athlete Aaron Chase, a freestyle mountain biker.
