A new Shutterstock Custom contributor profile page
Our aim is to continually evolve and perfect the way we match Contributors with assignments. That’s why we’ve redesigned our profile page with them in mind. These exciting changes will empower our creatives to showcase their talents, as well as highlight the kind of work they’re looking for.
If you’re already a member of our Contributor Community, or you’re interested in applying, here’s what you’ll need to provide in your brand new profile:
- Proof of Skill: Upload examples of your work that showcase your knack for Composition, Styling and Lighting. You’ll be scored in these three categories.
- Define Your Strengths: Identify the skill set (you can select product or lifestyle) and industries where you excel (i.e. automotive, beauty, food and beverage, etc).
- Variety: Show us your range, your ability to take on different subjects, and your unique approach.
- Profile Picture: No profile is complete without a photo. Choose one that represents who you are as an artist.
- Bio: Tell us about yourself! We love learning about the Contributors we work with.
These changes mark a new start for Shutterstock Custom, and we want you to be part of it.

What is Shutterstock Custom?
For those of you who aren’t contributors yet, Shutterstock Custom works with brands across the world on creative briefs that we deliver to our roster of photographers, videographers, and creatives to bring to life through the content they create. We’ve built a community of creatives who are driven, skilled, and reflective of the diverse world we live in. Their ingenuity, artistry, and point of view are what set us apart.
Contributors at Shutterstock Custom
The contributors at Shutterstock Custom are talented creatives who have the passion and skillset to create custom, branded content for global clients based off these creative briefs assigned by our in-house production team.
“Versatility can sometimes be seen as a bad thing in photography, however, I love shooting what I’m drawn to. The freedom that the assignments on Shutterstock Custom come with is awesome. I get to keep my voice as a creative photographer while creating custom content for different brands around the world.” — Landscape Photographer Trevor Maingi, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
What is a Shutterstock Custom assignment?
Creativity is key at Shutterstock Custom. We require photographers to have commercial work in their portfolio, but it doesn’t have to be commissioned by a particular client. You simply need to submit images that prove you have the skills to shoot for a particular industry.
Our assignments provide opportunities to leverage your talent, not your influence. Whether you have 50 followers or 50,000, we value quality over quantity. Our platform utilizes technology to match any brief to the ideal contributor based on their experience and areas of expertise. Our worldwide creatives then have the flexibility to opt in to assignments that appeal to them.
