Apple Unveils iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max: 48MP Camera, Always-On Display & More

Apple Unveils iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max: 48MP Camera, Always-On Display & More

Apple has unveiled the all new iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, with new features like a 48MP camera system, always-on display, crash detection, Emergency SOS via Satellite, and improved performance thanks to the new A16 CPU.

Both models have the same features, with the differentiating factors between the two models being that the iPhone 14 Pro includes a 6.1″ OLED display, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 6.7″ OLED display.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max offer always-on displays that dim automatically when not in use, but allowing you to instantly see things like the time, weather, stocks, or other widgets that are on the lock screen of the device.

The biggest feature improvement to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is the camera system, which now features a whopping 48-megapixel wide angle camera, with 2x, 3x, and 0.5x camera zoom options, with improved detail and low-light photography. There’s also a new camera flash system for better flash performance. The front-facing FaceTime camera also is improved, though not nearly as dramatically as the rear camera array.

Both iPhone 14 Pro models also include a redesigned front-facing camera system that does away with the infamous notch and replaces it with a feature called Dynamic Island, which allows the oblong shape display cut-out to expand and become interactive through software features, like when receiving a phone call, or playing music. It’s a creative approach to dealing with the front-facing camera system that some users have been critical of, but that has now been adopted across most of the Apple ecosystem including new Mac laptops with the display notch.

Powering the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is the all new A16 CPU, which Apple says is the fastest processor ever to be in a smartphone, while still remaining power efficient to offer all-day battery life.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max include a new crash detection system, that automatically will dial emergency services and your emergency contacts when a car accident has been detected.

There’s also an all new Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, which allows users who are out of cellular reception to still contact emergency services in the event they are lost or need assistance. That feature is free for two years with the purchase of an iPhone 14 series, but will be a fee after that period lapses.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Mqx are available in Space Black, Purple, Gold, and Silver color options, with device storage sizes ranging from 128GB to 1TB.
