Slow motion video footage is a great way to add drama to a sequence, showing 1 second of footage over 2, 4 or even 8 seconds.
The DJI Osmo Action is one of the first action cameras to enable you to shoot high-quality slow-motion footage at 1080p. As standard it comes with a two resolution; 1080p and 720 and two multipliers x4 or x8 meaning that one second of footage can be played back over 4 or 8 seconds.

this is impressive stuff and the Slow Motion option on the camera enables you to select the correct settings without needing to know about framerates which makes things easy.
In order to shoot slow motion you don’t need to do anything special, just select the mode using the QS button on the side of the camera and then select the options you want.
How to shoot slow Motion with the DJI Osmo Action
- Power on the camera using the Disp/Power button
- Press the QS button twice to select Slow Motion
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to display the options
- Select a resolution by swiping left or right, select 1080p
- Select a Speed by swiping left or right, select X8
- Swipe down to exit to the live view
- Press the shutter button to start recording slow motion footage
Using the slow-motion mode isn’t the only way you can shoot slow motion footage on the DJI Osmo Action. You can also directly select the resolution and framerates from within the video interface.
Approaching slow motion in this way gives you a few more options, for instance.
Select 4K at 60fps then you play back the footage at 30fps. This way 1 second of footage becomes 2.
Select 1080p at 240fps and you have 8 seconds of footage for every second captured. This is essentially the 8x slow motion option. Likewise, select 120fps for the 4x option.
The playback speed for most online video is 30fps, so if you record footage at framerates faster than this you can slow that footage down. It is however important that you always keep the framerate as multiples of 30.
