Adobe has done something that Apple has not yet been able to do: add raw capture to the iPhone with its latest Lightroom Mobile update.
In Lightroom Mobile 2.5, Adobe has announced that it has added the ability to capture and edit raw photos on the iPhone and iPad using Adobe’s DNG file format.
The long-awaited update brings the iOS version of Lightroom Mobile in line with the Android app, which added raw capture in February 2016.
Like raw capture and editing on a traditional camera and computer, Lightroom Mobile’s iOS app allows you to capture wider tonal range on your iPhone, edit the white balance post-capture and generally take more control over your images.

The Lightroom Mobile 2.5 update requires your device to run iOS 10 in order to capture raw files. What’s more, it will only shoot raw files on a device with a 12-megapixel sensor – meaning the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE and iPad Pro 9.7.
The Lightroom Mobile 2.5 update also adds support for the new wide gamut P3 colour space in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and iPad Pro 9. This new colour space offers 25% more colour than traditional sRGB colour space.
