Master Dreamy Orton Imagery: Photoshop Tip for Impressionistic Photos

Darwin Wiggett at Nature Photographers.net has some tips for making your images look like Michael Orton’s impressionistic, dreamy photos.

• Open your image in Photoshop and make a duplicate of it.

• Go to Image>Apply Image.

• Select the “screen” blending mode and set the opacity to 100%.

• Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur to blur the image, but don’t get carried away! (Wiggett suggests a radius setting of 15-50 pixels.)

• Drag the blurry image on top of the original image.

• Go to Layers and change the blending mode to “multiply.”

• Flatten the image.
