Pro Tip: Create Stunning Blurred Backgrounds with Point-and-Shoot Cameras

If you don’t have an SLR around, but want to try to get a limited depth of field shot with a professional-looking blurred background, David Pogue of the NY Times suggests backing up and zooming in:

• Set your camera to portrait mode.

• Make sure your subject is far from the background.

• Back away from your subject.

• Zoom in from far away, which will help create a shallow depth of field.
