Record Google Meet for Free – No Premium Needed
Need to capture a Google Meet session but don’t have a premium Workspace plan? You’re in the right place. Below you’ll find the easiest ways to record your meetings without paying for extra services.
When Google Meet Recording Is Available
Google Meet’s built‑in recording feature is only accessible to users who meet two criteria:
- They belong to one of the following Workspace editions: Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Starter, Workspace Individual, or a Google One subscriber with 2 TB or more of storage.
- They are the meeting host, co‑host, or have been granted recording permissions by an administrator.
Recording Directly in Google Meet (Cloud‑Based)
- Launch the Google Meet app and join or start a meeting.
- Click the Activities icon (three horizontal lines) and select Record meeting.
- Choose Start recording – all participants will receive a notification that recording has begun. Google captures the speaker, screen share, and chat. The maximum length is 8 hours.
- Return to the Recording tab and click Stop recording when you’re finished.
- The video is automatically saved to the host’s Google Drive inside the Meet Recordings folder, and an email with the link is sent to the host and the recorder.
Free Alternative: FlexClip Screen Recorder
If your Workspace edition doesn’t support recording, or you need a different file format, FlexClip offers a completely free, web‑based screen recorder.
- Records in MP4.
- Includes a built‑in editor.
- No download or installation required.
