Nikon has further integrated RED Cinema technology into its products today with a new set of imaging recipes aimed at bringing RED’s unique colors to Nikon cameras.
Based on some of RED’s most popular LUTs, these recipes allow users to quickly apply looks to photo and video that faithfully emulate RED LUTs, making it easy to get the RED look on your H.265/H.264 video with the press of a button or to match your video and still output seamlessly. This adds far more utility to shooting H.264/H.265 video in the five bodies compatible with the Nikon Imaging Cloud service (ZR, Zf, Z6III, Z5II, and Z50II). It also has the benefit that if you, for instance, are using the ZR and using a RED LUT like CineBias for your video, it is now much easier to match the look of that video with corresponding stills with these unique recipes.
I would expect this to be of particular use for content creators with quick turnarounds for social media as well as filmmakers wishing to get a more RED look with their Z cameras while shooting the less data-heavy H.265/H.264 formats as opposed to full R3D NE. This should also be a benefit to wedding shooters who want to match the look of their video and stills for their clients.
There are nine recipes in all, which include:
-
CineBias
-
CineBias-T Cool Atmosphere
-
CineBias-C Crisp Teal Contrast
-
CineBias-CC Noir Vibes
-
CineBias-WC Grit & Glow
-
CineBias-TC Green Edge Experimental
-
CineBias Offset
-
CineBias Achromic
-
CineBias Bleach Bypass
They are easy to apply. Once downloaded, you simply load them to your root directory on your media card. Go to the Photo Shooting menu. Tap Manage Picture Control. Select Load/Save. Then Copy To Camera. Select the one you want and assign it a slot. Once installed, in the future when you go to Set Picture Control, it will give you the option of using the preset.
Available for users of the Nikon ZR, but also for users of the Z6III, Z50II, Z5II, and Zf cameras, the new recipes are available for free only through the Nikon Imaging Cloud service.
