Premiere is a very intricate program, and video editing itself can be very involved. One thing that has always helped me is to make sure I am very organized off the bat. Your file names off the camera are probably strings of letters and numbers that do not really describe anything, and if you have a lot of clips in a project, it can be a bit of a pain to find what you need and keep track of everything. I like to take five minutes to rename the files descriptively before I import them; something simple like "city view 1" makes a big difference once I get into the editing process.
