On this video, photographers Jay P. Morgan (from the Slanted Lens) takes a look at shooting high sped photography of ice falling into a glass water and gives some tips about shooting glasses in general.
So the first thing you need to know when you are shooting a glass of water (or any drink for this matter) is that it is more important to light the background than the glass itself as the light from the background will be seen through the glass. Since the glass is round it will show quite a wide angle so you need to light the background quite a lot if you want the entire glass lit (although we kind of love the corners to stay dark).
The second part of this video deals with shooting the ice falling into the glass. This is done using high speed shooting with a MIOPS trigger. This is actually not the first time that we look at this trigger – Morgan himself did a video using this trigger not to long ago which we published here called “How to Shoot a Light Bulb Explode!
