On this video, part of a series “laws of light” by photographer Jay P. Morgan from the Slanted Lens we look at how to best light glass to get the best results.
Morgan gives 3 different lighting setups that can help you get better glass shots:
- Narrow Beam of Light on the Background – This is pretty straight forward get a narrow beam of light directed at a white background. Using small pieces of a white background will give you more contrast at the edges.
- Using Plexiglass – You can shine your light behind the glass through a sheet of frosted plexiglass – you might want to add a bit more diffusion to your light to prevent getting a hotspot in the center.
- Using a Softbox – this is probably the simplest of them all – just put a softbox with double diffusion (inside and out) and set it at a relatively low power behind your glass and shoot. can’t get much easier than that.
