On this video tutorial photographer Gavin Hoey takes a look at freezing motion and creating contrast with a flash.
Hoey describes how he creates a nice contarsty image using several lights. He describes in a step by step way how he position the lights – the first from the front and two in the back as rim lights. The forth light will be used for the background.
What is especially nice about this sort of setup is that it gives Hoey enough light to actually shoot some action and as you can see in some of the images in the second half of the video, he was able to pull some really cool expression and movements from his model (we especially liked the one when the cards are flying).
In the final part of the video Hoey takes the images to Photoshop and work with 3 images in Camera RAW together (by selecting all of them he works with all 3 at the same time).
