DJI has expanded its acclaimed Phantom line with the new Phantom 2 Vision+. Priced at $1,299—just $100 more than the Phantom 2 Vision—this model introduces several key enhancements.
Key upgrades include a 3‑axis stabilization gimbal, 2,300‑ft Wi‑Fi range, a top speed of 50 ft/s, and the capability to capture footage from directly below. The integrated GPS allows the drone to maintain hover position automatically if the controller is released.
Alongside the new release, DJI rolled out firmware updates for the existing Phantom 2 and Phantom 2 Vision. These updates bring new features such as special area restriction, which prevents the drones from entering restricted airspace—a growing safety and security concern in the drone industry.
DJI’s emphasis on safety aligns with recent incidents, such as a hexacopter falling onto an athlete during a triathlon. The Vision 2+—designed for ease of use—aims to mitigate such risks.
