Nikon’s long-awaited flagship DSLR has finally arrived with a few months to spare before the 2020 Olympics. The Nikon D6 is built around a 20.8-megapixel sensor that is powered by a new Expeed 6 processor that offers up to 14 frames per second burst shooting. In live view mode, the camera can silently shoot at 10.5 frames per second for full resolution files, 30 fps for 8-megapixel files, or 60 frames per second for 2-megapixel files. Here is what else you need to know about the new camera:
- 105 cross-type autofocus points, which is 1.6x denser than what was found on the D5
- Group autofocus mode supports 16 custom arrangements
- Center focus point works down to -4.5 EV, making it great in low light situations
- ISO range extends from 100-102,400, expandable up to 3.2 million
- 4K/30p video recording capabilities, now with focus peaking and MP4 recording
- Dual XQD/CFExpress card slots
- Built-in WiFi/Bluetooth and GPS
- 1000BASE-T Ethernet is 15 percent faster than the D5
- 14 customizable buttons
- Priority image transfer moves the most important shots to the front of the que
- Ability to record two JPEG images with different sizes
The camera will be available in April for $6500.
Nikon also has two new Z mount lenses on the way for its mirrorless camera system: a Nikkor Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR and a wide-angle Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S LE lens. Here is what we know about these new pieces of glass:
