Master Instagram Reels: Create Stunning Videos with Templates in 2024

Are you ready to turn your Instagram Reels into polished, share‑worthy videos? Instagram’s new Reels Templates let you replicate the structure, audio, and timing of a popular Reel in seconds.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step‑by‑step process of using existing Reels as templates, how to create your own template for others, and an online alternative for endless creative possibilities.

What Are Instagram Reels Templates?

Reels Templates are a feature that lets you start a Reel by copying the layout, audio, and timestamps of an existing Reel. Simply tap Use Template and replace the media with your own footage while keeping the original timing.

Only Reels created directly on Instagram qualify for this feature. However, you can save any template to your Saved folder for later editing.

How to Create Reels Using Others’ Templates

Option 1: From the Reels Tab

  1. Open Instagram and tap the Reels icon.
  2. Tap the camera icon, swipe left to Templates, browse until you find a suitable one, and tap Use Template.
  3. Tap Add Media to replace each clip or photo with your own footage from the camera roll.
  4. Finish with text, stickers, or effects, then publish.

Option 2: From a Public Reel

  1. Browse Reels until you spot the Use Template icon.
  2. Tap the icon, then Add Media to swap clips and photos.
  3. Customize with text and stickers, and share.

Save for Later: If you spot a Reel you love, tap the three dots > Save. Find it later in Saved > Reels.

Creating Your Own Reel Template

  1. Open the Reels camera, record or upload at least four clips.
  2. Add music from Instagram’s library or search for tracks.
  3. Use the Edit tool to trim, split, speed, or replace media; apply filters and effects.
  4. Publish and in Advanced Settings, uncheck "Don’t let others use this reel as a template".
  5. Your Reel will now appear with a Use Template label for others to remix.
