Easy DIY Star Filter: Create Stunning Starburst Effects for Christmas Photography

If you’ve ever noticed those perfect star effects you sometimes see in other people’s Christmas photography and wondered how they did it, the answer is by using what is called a star filter.

Typically, these can cost anywhere from £10 to £30. But as Youtuber EVA Landry shows in this quick video tutorial, it’s very easy to make your own DIY star filter with just a few common items you’l find around the house.

Using just a plastic CD case, a takeaway coffee cup holder, a screwdriver, a ruler and a marker, you can make your own star filter in just a matter of minutes!

This tutorial is part of Eva’s 12 trickz of Xmas series of DIY photography tutorials.
