Parrot, the maker of the 2013‑era AR Drone 2.0, has unveiled the Bebop—a lightweight quadcopter that packs a 14‑megapixel sensor, a 180° fisheye lens, and advanced software features.
Camera & Stabilisation
The Bebop’s large sensor is used for digital stabilization rather than a mechanical gimbal. By cropping the frame, the drone keeps footage steady while performing agile manoeuvres, producing high‑quality images and video from the 180° field of view.
Flight Control & Connectivity
Flight plans and GPS tracking are built‑in, and the drone is controlled via a smartphone over Wi‑Fi. The optional SkyController extends the signal to 2 km, allowing pilots to fly from a considerable distance.
Virtual Reality Support
With the SkyController, the Bebop can stream live video to VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift, giving an immersive first‑person view during flight.
Battery Life & Pricing
One full charge delivers roughly 12 minutes of flight time—short for the 2 km range, but typical for a consumer‑grade quadcopter. Parrot has not set a definitive price, only indicating it will sit between the $300 AR Drone 2.0 and the $1,000 DJI Phantom.
