If you have a Sony A7, your lens options just got a lot more exciting

Sony’s A7-series cameras have been an undeniable success so far. Of course, any good camera system, however, needs support from a robust lens line-up and Sony has seriously beefed up the E-mount today with three full-frame prime lenses.
The Zeiss Distagon T* FE 35mm F/1.4 ZA is the most high-end lens in the bunch, checking in at $1,600 and offering a nine-blade aperture to go with that F/1.4 aperture. Sony is promising corner-to-corner sharpness, even when your shooting wide open thanks to 3 aspherical elements. The aperture ring can be set to smooth turning or include the click stops depending on whether you’re shooting movies or stills, respectively. It’s also dust and moisture resistant as you’d hope for a lens of this caliber.
The FE 90mm F/2.8 Macro G OSS will cost $1,100 and offers a very classical 90mm macro focal length. It gives a true 1:1 magnification and built-in Optical Steady Shot. It’s a pretty standard short-telephoto macro and that’s a very welcome addition to the E-mount lineup.
The 24-240mm F/3.5-6.3 OSS zoom lens will cost $1,000 and employs a 10x optical zoom range that will feel familiar to users who are making the transition from a compact camera. It has five aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to try and combat distortion as you move through the focal range. It also has built-in Optical Steady Shot, which comes in handy when you get out into that 200mm+ range.
Lastly, the 28mm F/2 is the most budget-friendly new addition to the lineup. It will start shipping in May for $450. It’s a small lens, but it still has a 9-blade aperture, three aspherical elements, and two ED elements. 28mm is a very common focal length for street photography, and this thing attached to an A7 sounds like a very nice setup for that purpose.
In short, today was a pretty excellent day if you’re in the market for some new E-mount glass. The total lens count now sits at 11 and will continue to grow. The addition of another affordable prime is particularly promising.
