Hasselblad XCD 4/45P: The Lightest Digital Medium Format Lens Ever

Hasselblad’s X1D medium format cameras have the guts of a high-end studio camera inside a compact body that can easily be carried around out in the real world. Although the body itself is quite compact, the compatible lenses added some heft to the camera, but now that is changing.

This week, Hasselblad announced a forthcoming lens called the XCD 4/45P, which the company claims is the lightest medium format autofocus lens ever. At only 0.7 lbs it’s certainly the lightest lens in the Hasselblad lineup. Here is what else we know about it:

  • Nine elements in seven groups, including 2 aspherical elements
  • Quiet autofocus motor and leaf shutter
  • Aperture range: f/4 – f/22
  • Minimum focusing distance:  0.35 m
  • Flash sync up to 1/2000s (thanks to the leaf shutter)
  • Weigh:  0.7 lbs
  • Length: 1.85 inches
