This short video tutorial by photographer Nathaniel Dodson (from the website tutvid) looks at how to make really cool looking text animations using only Premiere Pro.
If you are used to working with After Effects then you might not need this video, but if you are mostly a Premiere type of user then there are some really nice ways of improving your content in this video.
Everything that Dodson shows here is based on an effect which is built into Premiere called transform. This effect can take shapes or text and do some real magic with them.
Dodson start by just playing with the scale function (create a keyframe at the beginning and somewhat later on in the clip). Dodson starts from 0% in the first keyframe and set the second one to 100%. This is super basic and doesn’t look that good.
The way you can elevate this to a more professional looking effect is by selecting both right clicking them and select auto bezier and add a little bit of blur by unchecking use composition shutter speed and set the value to 3360-degree shutter angle.
The real magic happens when you open the scale bar and you get the option to play with the zoom bump effect which is really cool (check out the video around 2:35).
Keep in mind that scale is just one option – you can also play with other transformations using the same effect such as position and other effects which can be animated in a similar fashion should work great with the same method.
