There are several different schools of street photography. Some choose to shoot from the hip, remaining unknown to their subjects. Some walk directly up to their subjects and snap a shot from directly in front of them. But, the legendary Steve McCurry goes out of his way to develop some kind of interaction with the person about to be photographed, even if it’s just some eye contact.

This topic is actually a pretty hotly debated one amongst photographers right now. Yes, here in the USA, you do have the right to walk up and take photographs of people in public. Every approach can achieve amazing results, so it seems that it’s mostly just a matter of taste and style.
