* Clean the Glasses: Ensure the glasses are spotless! Smudges and dust exaggerate reflections. Use a microfiber cloth designed for glasses.
* Adjusting Lighting:
* Raise the lights: A common solution is to elevate your light source (strobe or continuous light). A higher light source will reflect off the glasses upwards, out of the camera's view.
* Move the lights to the side: Move your lights further to the sides. This makes the angle of reflection wider and might take the reflection out of the shot.
* Use Diffusers: Soft, diffused light is your friend. Large softboxes, umbrellas, or even shooting through a scrim drastically reduce harsh reflections.
* Position the subject near a large, diffused light source (natural or artificial): Think of shooting near a large window on an overcast day. The broader, softer light minimizes distinct reflections.
* Avoid Direct Light: Direct flash or hard light sources are reflection magnets. If you must use flash, bounce it off a ceiling or wall.
* Dark Background: Using a darker background can help reduce reflections as there's less light to reflect in the first place.
* Subject Position:
* Move the subject away from reflective surfaces: Avoid having bright windows or light-colored walls directly behind the subject, as these will reflect in the glasses.
* Have the subject stand in a shaded area: If outdoors, seek out shade to create softer, more even lighting.
II. Techniques During Shooting:
* Polarizing Filter:
* On your lens: A polarizing filter can reduce glare and reflections significantly. Rotate the filter while looking through the viewfinder until the reflections are minimized. This is a valuable tool, but keep in mind that it can also darken the image, so you may need to adjust your exposure.

* Shoot from a Higher Angle: Sometimes, a slightly higher shooting angle can help to see *over* the reflections.

III. Post-Processing (When Prevention Fails):
* Clone Stamp Tool (Photoshop):

* Create a New Layer: Work on a new layer above your original image to avoid destructive editing. Name the layer something like "Glasses Reflection Removal".
* Healing Brush Tool (Photoshop):
* Good for blending textures: Similar to the Clone Stamp, but the Healing Brush blends the sampled area with the surrounding pixels, making it ideal for areas with complex textures.
* Content-Aware Fill (Photoshop):
* For simpler reflections: Select the reflection area and use Content-Aware Fill (Edit > Fill > Content-Aware). It can sometimes work surprisingly well, especially if the surrounding lens area is relatively uniform. However, it can also produce odd results, so always check the outcome carefully.
* Frequency Separation (Photoshop):
* Advanced Technique: This separates the image into high-frequency (details, textures) and low-frequency (tones, colors) layers. You can then work on the low-frequency layer to remove reflections without affecting the sharpness of the glasses. This requires some practice to master.

* Simple Reflections: Sample the color next to the reflection with the eyedropper tool. Then, using a soft brush, carefully paint over the reflection.

* Communicate with your subject: Explain the challenge of glasses reflections and ask for their cooperation in adjusting their head or glasses.
* Be patient: Removing reflections can be time-consuming, especially in post-processing.
* Zoom in: When editing, zoom in significantly to ensure you're working accurately and blending the corrected areas seamlessly.
* Practice: Experiment with different techniques to find what works best for you and the specific situation.
* Consider anti-reflective coating: Suggest to your clients (or wear them yourself!) that they invest in anti-reflective coating on their lenses. This drastically reduces reflections from the start.
