Which Video Is Best for a Fake Set
Not every video will look great when paired with a virtual background. Follow these criteria to ensure the best results.
Simple Backgrounds – A plain backdrop, especially solid green or blue, is easier for editors to isolate. It also offers more flexibility for later adjustments.
Consistent Lighting – Sudden changes in lighting or shadows can clash with a static background. Keep the illumination steady throughout the shoot.
Steady Capture – Use a tripod or stabilizer to avoid shaky footage that can distract viewers.
Controlled Foreground – Avoid moving objects that extend beyond the main frame, as they can be hard to blend into the new background.
High Definition – The clearer the source footage, the better the final composite. Higher resolution also mitigates quality loss when resizing.

How to Build a Virtual Set for Your Video
Want to polish an existing video’s backdrop—like replacing a plain wall with a gallery wall or turning a window into a bookshelf? The process involves Adobe Firefly for image manipulation and FlexClip for video editing.
Step 1: Capture a Frame of Your Video
On a computer, play the video in full screen and press the Print Screen key. On mobile, use the screenshot function. For detailed instructions, see How to Take a Screenshot of a Video.
Step 2: Create a Virtual Background with Adobe Firefly
Log in to Adobe Firefly and select the Generative Fill option. Upload the screenshot you just captured.
Use the Remove tool to erase unwanted elements, then click Insert to add new objects. Describe the addition, let Firefly generate options, and download the final image once you’re satisfied.
Step 3: Add the Background Image to Your Video in FlexClip
Open FlexClip and click Add New Background to Video.
Drag and drop your original video and the new background into the Media section. Hit Add as Scene to place the background on the timeline, then match the image duration to your video length.
Navigate to the Element tab, choose Mask, and select a shape that covers the moving subject—typically a square or circle. Place the mask above the subject, then drag the video into the mask, resizing as needed to align perfectly.
Once the composite looks seamless, export or share directly to YouTube, cloud services, or via a short link.
Creating a Fully Virtual Set
For the most immersive effect, shoot against a solid color background—green, blue, or red—then replace it entirely with a virtual set.
Step 1: Prepare Your Footage and Virtual Background
Ensure you have a video shot on a pure color backdrop and a virtual background ready. If you don’t have one, FlexClip’s free stock library offers millions of assets.
Step 2: Apply Layers in FlexClip
First, add the virtual background as a scene. Then, add your video as a picture‑in‑picture layer and adjust its size to fill the frame.
Step 3: Use Chroma Key
Click the Chroma Key icon, use the color picker to select the background hue, and fine‑tune the intensity until the solid color disappears, leaving a 100% virtual backdrop.
