Independent Film Week Preview: Exciting Partnership with IFP in NYC

We’re thrilled to be partnering with IFP (Independent Filmmaker Project) for the first time at this year’s Independent Film Week, taking place from September 14-18 in New York City.

IFP is the largest and oldest nonprofit dedicated to independent film, and has supported a huge range of amazing projects over its 35 year history. Serving as an invaluable resource in helping filmmakers navigate each and every step of the filmmaking process, IFP has been instrumental in helping to launch the careers of directors including Michael Moore, Benh Zeitlin, Miranda July, and many others.

There are three main components to the week: Project Forum is the place where people with projects in development meet with industry executives to explore financing and distribution options; the Filmmaker Conference is a series of talks and panels about the art and business of filmmaking; and the Festival Forum is dedicated to discussions and presentations covering the world of film festivals.

As part of our involvement during the week, we’re sponsoring a panel discussion at the Filmmaker Conference (which takes place in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center) titled “Crossing the Lens: Getting Too Close to Your Subject.” Our fantastic group of panelists, which includes Tracy Dorz Tragos (director of the 2014 Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner for US Documentary, Rich Hill, covered on our blog here), will discuss the delicate art of managing complex relationships with documentary subjects.

Some of the other talks you won’t want to miss during the week include the keynote from Beau Willimon (the screenwriter for House of Cards) on Sunday afternoon, and Ted Hope in Conversation with Marc Schiller, which takes place Tuesday morning.

Daily and weekly passes for the conference are still available.

If you already have plans to attend, be sure to stop by the Shutterstock table (in the Kaplan Penthouse, upstairs in the Samuel B. & David Rose Building) to say hello and enter for a chance to win a GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition. See you there!
