Proven Repurposing Blueprint: Turning a Single Webinar into 8.5x Views Over a Year

Four months ago, we transformed our annual State of Video Live webinar into a year’s worth of high‑performing content.

To date, the full replay has accumulated 177 hours of watch time. Short clips extracted from the recording have amassed over 800,000 views and more than 1,500 hours of engagement—an 8.5‑fold increase compared to the live event alone.

Repurposing webinars can be a game‑changer, but only when executed strategically. How you plan, produce, distribute, and edit determines the impact.

In this article we reveal our methodology and key lessons.

Revamping the Webinar Format

Each year, we release our State of Video Report. Like many industry leaders, we accompany the report with a large‑scale webinar to unpack the findings.

Last year, we pivoted to a hybrid model: a dynamic 30‑minute pre‑recorded presentation followed by a live Q&A. Our goal was to deliver a fast‑paced, multi‑segment, high‑production show that would captivate viewers and yield compelling clips.

The experiment paid off. Engagement remained high, with roughly 90 % of attendees watching the entire presentation and 27 % actively participating in the chat.

On‑demand metrics outperformed any previous year:

  • 70 % of total views occurred after the event, within just three months.
  • The replay on our blog converted 17 % of viewers.
  • Social clips achieved a 42 % higher view rate than our average.

For the full 2024 recap, see last year’s write‑up.

How We Repurposed This Year’s Webinar

The success of the hybrid format prompted us to iterate on it. This year we introduced two new elements:

  • Partner interviews: Instead of gathering quotes, we recorded data and then interviewed partners (via our group recording feature) to capture their reactions and insights.
  • Partner videos: Using the “request a video” feature, we asked select partners to re‑record key interview segments for inclusion in our news‑style segments.

Immediately after the event, we hosted the full recording across multiple channels and released curated clips a few weeks later on social media.

Hosting the On‑Demand Replay

We polished the recording in our video editor and embedded it in several high‑visibility locations:

  • On‑Demand landing page: gated replay for ad campaigns.
  • High‑traffic blog post: embedded at the top of Video Marketing Statistics for 2025, a post that already attracts significant organic traffic.
  • Media pages: added to Wistia Watch and Wistia Events, which funnel traffic from our homepage.

The blog post currently drives the majority of views.

The webinar was divided into five segments, each producing a 2‑3 minute clip and at least two sub‑minute snippets, yielding 10‑15 strong pieces for social distribution.

To date, we have shared five clips from two segments. The remaining clips will be staggered throughout the year to keep content fresh and prevent fatigue.

Performance of On‑Demand Assets

Overall, the webinar’s secondary content has performed strongly. We evaluate success through:

  • Live event: attendance, focused engagement rate.
  • On‑demand replay: views, engagement rate, watch time, form fills.
  • Clips: views, engagement rate, cost per click.

In just four months, we’ve surpassed 800,000 views across platforms.

Remember, view counts differ by platform—Facebook counts any view over 3 seconds, LinkedIn reports completion percentage, X tracks 6‑ or 15‑second views. Interpret these numbers with context.

Notably, the live event accounted for less than 0.1 % of total views but contributed over 10 % of total watch time, underscoring the distinct value of long‑form versus short‑form video.

Key Takeaways

State of Video Live is a flagship event for Wistia, and each iteration presents an opportunity to maximize its ROI through smarter repurposing. One constant emerges: higher production quality directly translates into more reusable, high‑impact content.

Our distilled insights:

  • Pre‑record key segments: Sharpens the event, grants visual flexibility, and unlocks more clip‑ready moments.
  • Distribute the on‑demand replay widely: Place it on your events page, a high‑traffic blog, and any channel where your audience already engages.
  • Space out social clips: Release clips over time and experiment with formats to maintain audience interest.

The bottom line? Repurposing webinars is a powerful lever for content marketing. Well‑crafted webinars serve as deep reservoirs of engagement‑driving material that, when leveraged through clips and on‑demand access, amplify ROI and fuel your content engine.

Maximizing the value of a webinar not only feeds your content strategy but also ensures you extract maximum ROI from the investment of time and resources.
