The more work I do in the video sector of our industry, the more I realize goes into creating videos. I perhaps underestimated just how much work can go into creating even a short, well-edited video, and where exactly the workload is hiding. Like photography, in videography, you spend a lot of your time no shooting. That is, preparation and post-production almost always outweigh the time spent with the camera actually in your hands. While it is crucial that you master your camera and settings, if you're looking to create regular content or videos for a living, you will need to also master post-production and preparation.
For me, the biggest contention was organizing the masses of footage after a shoot. It's easy to get lost in a sea of clips you recorded and waste unconscionable amounts of time looking for specific clips, for example. Being organized with the post-production is crucial for my work and it not only means my workflow is smoother and quicker, but I'm calmer too. There is nothing more frustrating than having to sift through clips looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack.
