Casey Neistat built a name for himself with his documentaries and unique editing style long before his daily vlog started. When CNN purchased his team for $25 million, he had over 6 million subscribers on YouTube, but it wasn't clear what he'd do for CNN. But the latest news is that he will be getting his own daily show at CNN which will run at 5 p.m. and is planned to launch in March.
Neistat told the New York Times that "a huge part of my particular audience sees news and media as largely broken," and sees the youth not responding or trusting the institutions that provide it.
CNN President Jeff Zucker met Neistat about two years ago and brought his son along. He told Neistat, "My son says that you're the only person who matters in media."
What the show will be about is still not clear, and Neistat's YouTube channel was not part of the deal and he still owns and produces content for it.
I'm impressed with Jeff Zucker listening to his son, knowing that they are the not-so-distant future leaders who will need people they trust to provide information in an appealing way. This is what Neistat can do, and do very well. The amazing part is, this is only the beginning.
