Achieve a Cinematic Film Look: Best Camera Settings for DSLRs & Drones

So you're interested in filming video with your DSLR. I don't blame you, I 100 percent prefer to shoot video over stills. I came across this super creative YouTuber, and in nine minutes, not only will you learn about the basics of shooting video, but you'll also save money by not spending it at an art school like I did. You're welcome.

This is easily one of the most fun and creative mini tutorials I've ever seen. Do you know how boring most of these camera settings actually are? Not to mention, the question "What settings are you using?" is probably one of the most annoying questions to ever be asked. I'm sure you can relate. That being said, Joey Helms does an awesome stop motion lesson on the basics of filmmaking.

If you're shooting with a DSLR, maybe you don't know about the video mode too much? Helms teaches you about frame rates, and what each frame rate does to your image, talks about the 180-degree shutter angle rule, and even touches on something photographers most likely know about, the exposure triangle. In the "bonus round" he touches briefly on picture profiles and focusing while shooting film.

Who doesn't like to be entertained while learning? Now that you understand some basics, get out there and shoot some video, then share what you've shot in the comments below!
