If you’re entering the video production industry, you’ll be bound to start collaborating with colorists, motion graphics artists, and clients. You’ll also start using cloud-based uploading for review. You’ll be happy to know Frame.io is now included to use in Adobe Creative Cloud, so if you’re a Premiere Pro user, you’re getting a great workflow enhancer for free.
Adobe bought Frame.io last year. The cloud-based software has provided a collaboration and review tool for all NLEs, and I’ve been using it ever since I started working with colorists and clients.
I’ve moved between Premiere Pro, Final Cut, and Da Vinci, depending on the project, but I’ve had issues every time with collaborating when it wasn’t Premiere Pro. It’s just the industry standard in the advertising and social video space, and it's a given that you'll need to collaborate.
For motion graphics, video retouching, and coloring, it's easy to upload a timeline with the footage and share it with the parties concerned. It's also great that the modified versions can then be downloaded and pulled into Premiere Pro for you to render the videos out for delivery.
Frame.io is also great for client review. Clients don’t need to register an account. You can send them a link via email or messaging app, which lets them watch the videos online and comment on a per second basis. It’s much easier than having your clients write out long emails, and it’s much more pleasing and can be done in a fraction of the time. So. you know exactly what needs to be changed in your edit and can deliver the end result sooner.
This new update offers an additional 100 GB of storage in the cloud. The last project I did contained 32 social videos, and I needed to provide alpha channels, ProRes, and H.264 formats of the videos, as well as the stems of the audio. It ended up being 800 GB for the delivery, which is a lot. I could argue that when it comes to the approval process, you could share lower-quality videos, which can easily fit into your 100 GB Creative Cloud Subscription. But, at the moment I only subscribe to Frame.io if I know the project is going to need it, so it’s not a monthly subscription like Adobe Creative Cloud is for my business.
I'm glad Adobe is including Frame.io in their subscription offering. It's a great tool. You should be able to update as you're reading this.
