Easy DIY Guide: Build Budget LED Balloon Lights from Shower Curtains

### Materials:

- 10ft x 10ft clear shower curtain

- (qty 10) multi-color 10mm LED lights

- (qty 1) 10ft string of battery-operated LED lights (cool or warm white)

- (qty 3) 18" balloons (any color)

- Fishing line

- Clear tape

- Scissors

- Wire cutter

- Hot Glue Gun

Step 1: LED Light Assembly

1. Cut the extension cords of 9 of the 10 multicolor LED light strings so they are about 2 to 3 inches long. Discard the leftover LED lights and the leftover extension cord with the battery pack attached to it.

2. Connect all of the shortened extensions by inserting the male connector of one into the female connector of another. Do this until all 9 are joined together.

3. Connect the string of white battery operated LED lights into one of the connectors in the LED chain you just made.

Step 2: Balloon Assembly

1. Inflate all 3 balloons to about 14 to 16 inches in diameter. Tie off the balloons leaving about 3 to 4 inches of tail at the knot end of each balloon. Leave the balloons attached to each other where the necks are tied together in a triple-balloon cluster. Leave the knot ends open.

2. Cut a 24-inch length of fishing line and tie one end to one of the knot ends of the balloons. Thread the other end through the remaining two knot ends and pull to create a triangle effect as the balloons pull together with the fishing line pulling the opposite way. Tie a knot at the other end of the fishing line at about 15 to 18 inches from the balloon triangle to allow for the length of the fishing line to hold down the balloon cluster once suspended. Set aside.

Step 3: Shower Curtain Assembly

1. Lay out the shower curtain flat on a surface of your choice. Open the curtain flat so it is a square.

2. Cut a piece of the shower curtain so that it is about 10ft by 8ft.

3. Fold the 8ft portion of the shower curtain over (in half) so it is about 10ft by 4ft. Set aside.

Step 4: Building the Structure

1. Set the folded shower curtain down in front of you (horizontally) with the fold toward you.

2. Take the balloon triangle and place it right in the very middle of the shower curtain with the fishing line hanging down the center of the fabric.

3. Wrap one of the corners of the shower curtain, from right to left, over and diagonally onto the balloons until it gets to the corner of the shower curtain on the left. The balloon cluster should now be covered.

4. Lift the shower curtain, so the folded edge you created is now at the bottom.

5. Take the corner you just wrapped over the balloons (now on the left) and tuck the raw edge under the folded shower curtain edge about 2 to 3 inches up from the bottom.

6. Flip the light over so that the LED portion is facing you and the light switch can be accessed.

7. Tape and then hot glue the entire edge in that spot to the folded shower curtain edge to secure it completely closed.

8. Lift the shower curtain again so the fold is still at the bottom.

9. Take the edge on the right and wrap it over the balloons from left to right, just as you did on the left side. Again, tuck it under the folded edge of the shower curtain on the right.

10. Tape the edge closed completely.

11. Turn the shower curtain right side up so the fold is now at the top and the balloons are pointed downwards.

12. Wrap the LED chain under and around the balloon cluster and battery pack, starting at the top, leaving about 6 to 8 inches of LED on the very bottom of the cluster. Leave the battery pack hanging loose.

Step 5: Hanging and Finishing Touches

1. Hang the fishing line from the balloon cluster on a hook or mount on your ceiling so the balloons hang down a few feet.

2. Turn on the lights and enjoy your DIY LED balloon light!
