On this extensive video tutorial, photographer Terry White takes a look at the all-new Adobe Photoshop for the iPad announced earlier this week and what you can currently do with it.
Just a few days ago Adobe made a huge announcement including updates to many of its leading software (Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, After Effects, Audition, and many others). One announcement was for an app that many iPad users have been waiting for since Adobe demonstrated that it has been working on it many months ago – Photoshop for iPad.
After the release, there were quite a few users and reviewers who had a criticism of missing features in this newly released app and this video by White tries to show that despite being only a first release (with some obvious missing functionality that will come later on – feel free to suggest a feature right from the app), there is already quite a bit that you can do with the app.
So what does White show in this tutorial? well, he demonstrates how you can create a fairly complex composite image using files from the Adobe cloud (you can use other resources including more or less any image on your iPad and images on some cloud apps that you have installed (Dropbox for example).
You can use layers, masks, adjustment layers, blending modes, work with different sections tools, import fonts from the Adobe cloud (new ones or ones that you already used on your computer) and much more.
One thing which looks pretty clear to us at this point is that although you can probably do some things with just your hand and gestures or a pen – having a keyboard is really going to help you speed up your work and generally make your life easier.
We are still hoping that Adobe will release a similar version of Android-based tablets although we would not hold our breath for that as developing a complex software like this for many different devices can be difficult and the market is actually not that big.
