How to Sync Develop Presets in Lightroom Mobile: Step-by-Step Guide

Syncing your develop presets in Lightroom Mobile is a great way to maintain consistency across your devices and streamline your editing workflow. Here's how to do it:

Prerequisites:

* Adobe Creative Cloud Account: You'll need a paid Adobe Creative Cloud subscription (e.g., Photography plan) to sync presets. The free version of Lightroom Mobile does not offer syncing capabilities.

* Lightroom Desktop (Classic or CC): Presets are primarily managed in Lightroom on your desktop. This is where you'll create, organize, and initially sync them to the cloud.

* Lightroom Mobile App: The Lightroom Mobile app installed on your phone or tablet, and signed in with the same Adobe ID as your desktop version.

* Stable Internet Connection: You'll need a good internet connection for the initial sync and any subsequent updates.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Import and Organize Presets in Lightroom Desktop (Classic or CC):

* Lightroom Classic:

* Import: In the Develop module, click on the "+" icon in the Presets panel (usually on the left side). Choose "Import Presets...". Navigate to the folder containing your presets and select them. Click "Import."

* Organize: Create preset groups (folders) to keep your presets organized. Right-click in the Presets panel and choose "Create Group..." Name your group (e.g., "Travel Presets," "B&W Styles"). Drag and drop your presets into the appropriate groups.

* Lightroom CC (Cloud-Based):

* Import: In the Edit panel, click on the Presets icon at the bottom. Click the three dots (...) next to "Presets" at the top of the panel and select "Import Presets..." Navigate to the folder containing your presets and select them. Click "Import."

* Organize: Similar to Lightroom Classic, you can create preset groups. Click the three dots (...) next to "Presets" and select "Create Group." Name the group and drag presets into it.

2. Ensure Syncing is Enabled (Lightroom CC):

* Lightroom CC: Presets should automatically sync if you are logged in with your Adobe ID and the cloud icon in the upper right corner of the application shows that the application is connected to the cloud.

3. Enable Syncing for Preset Groups (Lightroom Classic):

* Lightroom Classic: This is a crucial step. Right-click on each preset group (folder) you want to sync and select "Sync with Lightroom." A checkmark will appear next to the group name, indicating that it will be synced. This step is often missed!

4. Wait for Sync to Complete:

* Lightroom Desktop: Let Lightroom sync to the cloud. You can monitor the sync progress by looking at the cloud icon in the upper-right corner of Lightroom Desktop. It should show a syncing animation or a message that all is synced.

* Lightroom Mobile: Open Lightroom Mobile and give it some time to sync. The initial sync can take a while, especially if you have many presets. Make sure your device has a stable internet connection and the app is not running in the background.

5. Access Presets in Lightroom Mobile:

* Open a photo in Lightroom Mobile.

* Tap the "Presets" button at the bottom of the screen. (It looks like two overlapping circles).

* You should see your synced preset groups and individual presets. Tap a preset to apply it to your photo.

Troubleshooting:

* Presets Not Showing Up:

* Check Sync Status: Verify that Lightroom Desktop is fully synced. Look for error messages.

* Check Lightroom Classic Sync: Ensure you have explicitly enabled "Sync with Lightroom" for each preset group you want to sync.

* Internet Connection: Make sure both your desktop and mobile devices have a strong internet connection.

* Restart Lightroom Mobile: Close and reopen the Lightroom Mobile app.

* Reinstall Lightroom Mobile: As a last resort, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Lightroom Mobile app.

* Adobe ID: Confirm that you are logged into both Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Mobile with the same Adobe ID. Double-check that you didn't accidentally create two separate Adobe accounts.

* Sync Slow or Stuck:

* Close Other Apps: Close other apps on your computer and mobile device that might be using bandwidth.

* Restart Devices: Restart your computer and mobile device.

* Check Adobe Status Page: Check the Adobe System Status page (status.adobe.com) to see if there are any reported outages or issues with the Creative Cloud services.

* Presets Missing on Lightroom Desktop

* If you can't see your presets on Lightroom Desktop, ensure you are logged into your Adobe account on the program.

Important Considerations:

* Preset Organization: Good organization in Lightroom Desktop is key to a smooth experience in Lightroom Mobile. Create logical groups to make it easy to find the presets you need.

* Preset Compatibility: While most presets should work across platforms, there may be minor differences in how they render due to variations in processing engines.

* Cloud Storage: Keep an eye on your Adobe Creative Cloud storage. Large libraries of presets and photos can fill up your storage space. You can manage your storage in your Adobe account settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to seamlessly sync your develop presets between Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Mobile, allowing you to edit your photos consistently on any device. Remember to enable "Sync with Lightroom" for preset groups in Lightroom Classic and ensure you have a stable internet connection.
