1. Create the Motion Path
Begin by creating a layer to be used as the motion path. This can be an empty layer or a shape layer. Place it on top of the desired footage.
2. Animate the Motion Path Layer
Animate the motion path layer to create the path that the "echos" will follow. You can modify its position and rotation over time.
3. Add a Shape Layer
Create another shape layer and place it at the beginning of the motion path animation. This layer will become the echoed object.
4. Animate the Shape Layer
Use keyframes to animate the scale, rotation, and position of the shape layer. This will control the size, spin, and movement of the echoed object.
5. Add a Repeater Effect
Select the shape layer and add the "Repeater" effect from the "Effects" menu.
6. Adjust Repeater Settings
In the "Repeater" effect, adjust the "Copies" parameter to determine the number of "echos" that will appear. Modify the "Delay" and "Offset" parameters to control the spacing and timing of the echoes.
7. Mask the Echoes
Use a mask on the shape layer to limit where the "echos" appear along the motion path. Mask the path with a shape that gradually tapers off as the echoes diminish in size.
8. Add Glow or Blur
Optionally, you can apply a glow effect to the shape layer to make the "echos" more visible or add a slight Gaussian blur to create a softer look.
9. Render and Repeat
Render your project to see how the isolated echo trail effect looks. You may need to fine-tune the parameters of the repeater and mask effects to achieve the desired results.
Repeat this process for other elements in your footage to create additional echo trails. Experiment with different motion path patterns and echoed object shapes to create unique echo trail effects.
