Interviewer: Nathan, thank you for joining us. Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into filmmaking?
Nathan Silver: Sure, I'm glad to be here. I developed an interest in filmmaking in college. I studied film at Wesleyan University and took every opportunity to get involved in film projects. I made short films, worked on student films, and even interned at a production company. After college, I decided to pursue filmmaking as a career.
Interviewer: What inspired you to focus on independent filmmaking?
Nathan Silver: I'm drawn to indie filmmaking because it gives me the freedom to create the kind of films I want to make. I'm not interested in making big budget, commercial films. I want to make films that are personal and that say something about the world we live in.
Interviewer: How did you manage to make eight indie films in just a few years?
Nathan Silver: It wasn't easy. I worked very hard and I made a lot of sacrifices. I lived frugally, I worked multiple jobs, and I put all of my money into my films. I also relied heavily on the support of my friends and family.
Interviewer: What are some of the challenges you faced as an independent filmmaker?
Nathan Silver: There are a lot of challenges to making indie films. The biggest challenge is financing. It's very difficult to raise money to make a film, especially if you're a first-time filmmaker. Another challenge is distribution. It's hard to get your film into theaters and to reach a wider audience.
Interviewer: Despite these challenges, you've managed to achieve a great deal of success. What advice would you give to aspiring independent filmmakers?
Nathan Silver: My advice to aspiring independent filmmakers is to never give up on your dreams. If you have a story to tell, tell it. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Be resourceful, be creative, and be persistent.
