10 Expert Lighting Tips to Transform Your Wedding Reception

This video by photographer Michelle Ford and Shivani Reddy (from slrlounge) gives 10 useful tips for setting up lighting for a wedding reception.

Wedding receptions are complex to shoot – they are indoors (typically) and happen in many cases after nightfall which means that you are have to relay on artificial light – from the room itself and everything you bring with you.

Ford and Reddy talk from their own experience about some of the things they think might help you get the most out of this important but challenging shooting situation.

  2. Match the color of the ambient light.
  3. Use light modifiers.
  4. Get the right camera settings.
  5. Use ceilings and walls to bounce light.
  6. Overpowering the DJ’s lights.
  7. Where do you stand in relation to your subject.
  8. Control your flashes.
  9. Use foreground lights for creative effects.
  10. Use direct flash.
