As camera manufacturers refresh models annually, Nikon’s latest APS‑C DSLR, the D7100, brings noticeable upgrades.

The D7100 features a 24.1‑megapixel DX‑format CMOS sensor that eliminates the optical low‑pass filter, delivering sharper detail. It is powered by the EXPEED 3 image processor.

A significant improvement is the 51‑point autofocus system, 15 of which are cross‑type, enabling precise focus across the frame. The camera can shoot at up to 6 fps in full resolution, or 7 fps with the 1.3× crop mode, which also increases the effective focal length to 2×.

The 3.2‑inch rear LCD has 1,229 k‑dot resolution, while the optical viewfinder now includes OLED data overlay for clearer shooting data.

Weather‑sealed construction and a shutter rated for 150,000 cycles make the D7100 durable, comparable to the D300s.

Video options include 1080p at 30 fps, or 60i/50i when using the 1.3× crop mode.

Pricing: body only $1,199, bundled with the AF‑S DX Nikkor 18‑105 mm F/3.5‑5.6 VR lens $1,599. The camera is slated for release in March.
