The Canon Rebel line has long been a favorite among DSLR enthusiasts, and the newest models demonstrate a clear bifurcation into two distinct tiers: the advanced T6s and the beginner‑oriented T6i.
Both cameras share a 24‑megapixel APS‑C sensor, the highest‑resolution crop sensor in Canon’s current lineup. They also feature the latest Digic 6 processor and the Hybrid CMOS AF III autofocus system, with a 19‑point AF array for viewfinder composition.
Additional similarities include a native ISO range of 100‑12,800 (expandable to 25,600), built‑in Wi‑Fi and NFC, and a 3‑inch Vari‑Angle touch screen with 1,040,000 dots that can be flipped forward for selfies.
Video performance tops out at 1080p/30 fps. The T6s adds manual exposure control during recording and an external microphone jack—features that can significantly improve the quality of user‑generated video.
Further enhancements in the T6s include a dedicated top LCD for quick settings review, a Quick Control Dial, a built‑in horizontal level (useful on tripods), and Servo AF in Live View for tracking subjects and burst shooting.
Price points reflect the segment split: the T6s body retails at $849, while the 18‑135 mm STM kit lens bundle is $1,199. The T6i body is $749, with the same lens kit available for $1,099.
This upgrade represents a significant leap over the previous T5i/T4i era, especially given the fierce competition from mirrorless systems in the same price range.
