Canon Australia released a press release last week confirming some of the specs inside the forthcoming EOS R5—an uncharacteristic move for any camera company, where release news typically trickles into the public from offices in Japan.
The release confirmed that the forthcoming camera will capture internal 8K/30p video using the full width of the sensor, will support Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus, have improved in-body stabilization, and advanced animal autofocus for cats, dogs, and birds.
Initial rumors suspected the 8K video capture mode might only use part of the camera’s sensor, which would introduce a crop factor on lenses. It’s a phenomenon we’ve seen before and it makes shooting wide-angle shots more difficult.
Canon first confirmed the camera last month with a development announcement. Although the specs on this forthcoming mirrorless camera are very impressive, we expect this one won’t be hitting the market for quite some time due to the global spread of Coronavirus.
