How to Sync Lightroom Desktop Develop Presets to Mobile: Step-by-Step Guide

Syncing your Develop Presets from Lightroom Desktop to Lightroom Mobile allows you to easily access and use your custom editing styles on your phone or tablet. Here's a breakdown of how to do it:

Prerequisites:

* Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription: You need an active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription that includes Lightroom (the cloud-based version) to utilize the syncing feature. Lightroom Classic does not directly sync presets with Lightroom Mobile. You need to import them into Lightroom (the cloud-based version) first.

* Adobe Lightroom (Desktop): This is the full desktop application where you manage and edit your presets. Make sure you're using the cloud-based Lightroom application, *not* Lightroom Classic.

* Adobe Lightroom Mobile (iOS or Android): This is the mobile app installed on your phone or tablet.

* Same Adobe ID: You must be logged into both Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Mobile using the same Adobe ID (email address and password).

Steps to Sync Presets:

1. Import Presets into Lightroom (Desktop - Cloud Version):

* If Presets are in .xmp format (Recommended): This is the modern format for Lightroom presets.

* Open Lightroom (desktop).

* Go to the Develop module.

* In the Presets panel on the left, click the (+) icon at the top.

* Select "Import Presets..."

* Navigate to the folder where your .xmp preset files are located, select them, and click "Import." You can select multiple presets at once.

* If Presets are in .lrtemplate format (Older Format): This format is less common now.

* Open Lightroom (desktop).

* Go to the Develop module.

* In the Presets panel on the left, click the (+) icon at the top.

* Select "Import Presets..."

* Navigate to the folder where your .lrtemplate preset files are located, select them, and click "Import."

* Important Note: Lightroom Classic .lrtemplate presets should be imported into the Lightroom (desktop) app for syncing to mobile.

2. Ensure Sync is Enabled:

* Lightroom (desktop) automatically syncs with the cloud, but it's a good idea to check.

* In Lightroom (desktop), look in the top right corner for a cloud icon. It should be actively syncing. If it says "Paused" or shows an error, click on it to troubleshoot and resume syncing.

3. Organization (Optional but Recommended):

* Create Preset Groups/Folders: In the Presets panel in Lightroom (desktop), you can create custom groups to organize your presets. Right-click in the Presets panel and select "Create Preset Group..." This helps keep things tidy in Lightroom Mobile.

4. Open Lightroom Mobile:

* Open the Lightroom Mobile app on your phone or tablet.

* Make sure you are logged in with the same Adobe ID as your desktop Lightroom.

5. Wait for Sync to Complete:

* Lightroom Mobile will automatically sync with the cloud. The time it takes depends on the number of presets you're syncing and your internet connection speed.

* You can often see a syncing progress indicator in the Lightroom Mobile app (usually a cloud icon or a progress bar).

6. Access Your Presets in Lightroom Mobile:

* Open a photo in the Lightroom Mobile app.

* Tap the Edit icon (usually at the bottom).

* Tap Presets at the bottom.

* You should see your imported presets, organized into the groups/folders you created on the desktop (if you did that).

Troubleshooting:

* Presets Not Syncing:

* Check Adobe ID: Double-check that you're logged in with the exact same Adobe ID on both Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Mobile. A common mistake is accidentally using different email addresses.

* Check Internet Connection: Ensure both your computer and mobile device have a stable internet connection.

* Check Sync Status: In Lightroom (desktop), click the cloud icon in the top right corner. Look for any error messages or indications that the sync is paused. If it's paused, resume it.

* Check Lightroom Mobile Sync: In Lightroom Mobile, tap the three dots (...) in the top right corner and go to "Cloud Storage & Sync." Make sure syncing is enabled and check for any error messages.

* Restart Lightroom Apps: Close and reopen both Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Mobile.

* Update Lightroom Apps: Make sure you have the latest versions of Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Mobile installed. Check for updates in the Creative Cloud desktop app (for desktop Lightroom) and in your app store (for Lightroom Mobile).

* Presets Appear in Wrong Order or are Missing:

* This can sometimes happen during the initial sync. Wait a while and see if the ordering corrects itself.

* Try renaming the preset folders and presets in the desktop version.

* If all else fails, try removing the presets from Lightroom (desktop) and re-importing them.

Key Considerations:

* Cloud Storage: Syncing presets, photos, and edits uses your Adobe Creative Cloud storage. Be aware of your storage limits.

* Performance: Syncing a large number of presets can take time and might impact performance, especially on older devices.

* No Syncing from Lightroom Classic Directly: Lightroom Classic uses a different syncing mechanism. You need to import your Classic presets into the *cloud-based* Lightroom application to sync them with Lightroom Mobile.

* Preset Updates: When you update or change a preset on your desktop, it will automatically sync to your mobile device.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully sync your Lightroom Develop Presets to Lightroom Mobile and enjoy consistent editing on all your devices!
